Health And Safety At Work Act 1974

The law imposes a responsibility on the employer to ensure safety at work for all their employees. Much of the law regarding safety in the work place can be found in the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974.

It places an obligation upon all employers to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their employees whilst at work and any other persons affected by their business activities.

Section 2(3) of the Act also requires that employers of five or more employees maintain in writing a safety policy. This policy statement must include details of the organisation and arrangements for implementing the policy.
